When our social workers first met Chamnab* many years ago he was a 10-year old boy living on the streets with his two sisters after their single-parent mother abandoned them. The team helped them to find a safe place to live and Chamnab started to go to school. He later dropped out of school in Grade 8.
In late 2017 he decided to join M’Lop Tapang’s Vocational Training Program to study cooking. While at Sandan, our training restaurant, he excelled at learning and was one of the standout students. Earlier this year Chamnab, now 20-years old, completed his training and with the help of our ‘Futures’ job services team has now found full-time employment as a cook at one of the new hotels in Sihanoukville. His new job provides him with a regular salary of $200 USD/month plus meals and accommodation.
“I am so happy that M’Lop Tapang helped me get the skills and a good job. I know I will make new friends and save some money for my future.”
