Some children just need the right opportunity to show how talented they are.
For 13 year old Heng* life has never been easy. His family is very poor, his father left when Heng was very young, and he and his mother and siblings often moved from place to place looking for work or a better place to live. Because of his family condition Heng had to drop out of school before even completing grade 2.
M’Lop Tapang’s outreach team met Heng almost six years ago when he moved with his mother and siblings to Sihanoukville. Since then Heng has been attending classes at our Main Center trying to catch up on his studies.
Heng has always loved football and every chance he has he is practicing on the pitch or joining other players in matches and tournaments. And he is good at it.
Earlier this year the team Heng played on was the winner of a tournament in Phnom Penh and Heng was one of the star players. After the tournament Heng was invited by the Football Federation of Cambodia sports committee to test and try out for them. During his testing he impressed everyone and was offered a scholarship.
He has now moved to to the National Football Centre in Tonle Bati district in Takeo where he is continuing his schooling and training as well. The aim is for him to play for Cambodian national team in the 2023 ASEAN Games.
